75th Independence Day: India’s Olympic Contingent at Red Fort

15th August 2021, a historic day for our nation as we celebrated our 75th Independence day. This year in Tokyo Olympics 2021, the Indian team also created history with their mind-blowing performance in the respective disciplines. India’s Olympic Contingent at Red Fort on the occasion of India 75th Independence Day.
Independence Day event at Red Fort
The reason that on every Independence day, the flag is hoisted at the Red Fort is that it embraces the day 15 August, 1947, when for the first time after independence our former Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru hoisted the flag on the Red Fort.
Flag Hoisting and PM’s words
As per the ritual, Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi hoisted the flag on the Red Fort. He also praised the Indian athletes and players for giving the country pride at the Tokyo Olympics.




All India Radio News has tweeted on their Twitter account the PM’s Speech praising the athletes and the players for their performance. They captioned it as
“For the amazing performance in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauds our team for bringing glory to the Nation.”
India’s Olympic Contingent
India won a total of seven medals (1 Gold, 2 Silver and 4 Bronze) in the Tokyo Olympics, making it the country’s best-ever medal tally. As part of the Olympic contingent at the Red Fort’s Independence Day ceremony, over 240 Olympians, support staff, and Sports Association of India (SAI) and sports federation executives were invited to decorate the Gyan Path in front of the Ramparts.




Sports Association of India tweeted on Twitter “ Our Indian Contingent Tokyo 2020 seated for the 75th India Independence Day ceremony at the historic Red Fort Rampart, New Delhi. Send in your blessings to the Champions with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and be a part of the celebrations.”
The Shining Stars of the Olympics
Neeraj Chopra has become a sensation after winning the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics. After the flag hoisting, when he was asked how he felt being a part of the event Neeraj Chopra says “ We used to watch flag hoisting events on TV, but now we are going there ourselves. It’s a unique situation. We hadn’t won a gold medal in an individual sport in quite some time. It made me glad to know that my country admired me.” After the event he tweeted “attending the historic event of Independence day at the Red Fort was his honour. As an athlete and a soldier his heart is filled with emotions when he see his flag flying high”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shared some glimpses of his Independence day speech on Twitter.
- He praises start-ups and says “ They are new wealth creators and the pride of the nation.”
- PM Modi also discussed the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti National Master Plan that will bring more new opportunities for the youth.

President’s Gratitude for the Olympic Team
On 14th August 2021, a day before Independence Day, President Ram Nath Kovind organised a “high tea” for the athletes and the player who made India proud in the Tokyo Olympics at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre. M. Venkaiah Naidu, India’s Vice President, also attended the event.
A glimpse of the interaction between the President and the Indian Olympic Contingent can be seen on the tweet posted on the President’s Twitter account.




The President praised the whole Indian contingent for their outstanding performance not just in terms of accomplishments, but also in terms of future potential. Coaches, support staff, family members, and well-wishers all helped them prepare, which he appreciated.
The majority of the athletes are just starting in their sports careers. With the enthusiasm and expertise with which they all performed in Tokyo, India will have a significant position in the sports world in the future.

This year we celebrated our 75th Independence Day. The victory celebration for us already began after the outstanding performance of Indian athletes and players in the Tokyo Olympics. Omicron cases are increasing and there are cases of Covid-19 variant in Delhi, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
There are fresh Omicron patients risen to 38 as 1 each in Chandigarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.
Top news related to Omicron
There was the first case in Nagpur, Maharashtra. A 40-year-old man came back from South Africa via Delhi. He was tested positive at the airport on December 6.There was the 18th case of omicron on December 11 and 12.In Kerala’s Ernakulam, a patient returned from the UK via Abu Dhabi and tested positive for Omicron. Till then, he was home quarantined and his family members and other passengers were home quarantined. A 20-year-old who came from Italy tested positive. A man who returned from Ireland to Andhra Pradesh was tested positive for Omicron. Maharashtra has the maximum number of cases.The ICMR unit in Assam has developed a new testing kit to detect Omicron in two hours.The WHO warned the nations of the Asia Pacific region to boost healthcare capacity and full vaccinate their people.

Harnaaz Sandhu, a 21 year old from India, represented India at the 70th Miss Universe 2021 which was held at Eilat, Israel.
In 2000, Lara Dutta won the title of Miss Universe.
She was presented the crown by Andrea Meza, the former Miss Universe of 2020 from Mexico which was live-streamed all across the world.
The first runner up was from Paraguay and second runner up was from South Africa.

In the top three rounds, the contestants were asked what advice would you give to young women watching on how to deal with the pressures they face today?
Harnaaz Sandhu answered this question amazingly. She said the biggest pressure the youth of today is facing, is to believe in themselves. To know that you are unique makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourselves with others and let’s talk about more important things that are happening worldwide. Come out and speak for yourself, because you’re the leader of your life. You are the voice of your own. I believed in myself and that is why I am standing here today.

The proposal from the government which addresses the pending issues has been accepted by farmer unions and the farmer union will be meeting the government on Thursday (9th December 2021) at noon.
Farmer union to meet the government and decide further movement
The farmer union, SKM (Samyukta Kisan Morcha) accepted the government proposal which addresses the pending issues of farmers.
It was on Tuesday (7th December 2021) when the central government sent the draft to the farmer union which is a five-member committee. Sources have indicated that once the final draft of the proposal agreed by both the parties is received by the union, the farmers’ protest which started on 26 November 2020 will end.
The issues listed in the draft were Surety on Minimum Support Price, withdrawal of the draft Electricity Amendments Bill, 2020/2021, withdrawal of criminal cases against the farmers, and also compensation for the families of farmers who died during the protest.
The SKM said that they will be meeting the government at Singhu Border on Thursday at noon to come up with a formal decision and later end the protest.
