Born in a Tamil family, Usha Uthup studied in the St. Agnes High School located in Byculla. When she was studying, she was thrown out of her notable music classes because her voice didn’t fit the songs sung there. Well, her voice was unique, and the industry-respected the same. In 1969, Usha Uthup used to sing in Nine Gems, a small nightclub located on Mount Road.

After some time, she gradually started singing at the Oberoi hotels, and luckily, there was a film crew present there. They noticed her talent and offered her a song.
