Major Side Effects of Bleaching Your Hair

news24

Published

on

Who doesn’t love a bit of experimentation with their hair? It’s all fun to bleach and color it! It is very common nowadays to color and bleaching your hair. People tend to love experimenting with their hair as it somehow increases the luster of hair, and the person feels tenfold gorgeous with the results! Meanwhile, you have to keep in mind that while it is fun to experiment, it is not in any way healthy and has irreversible side effects. It is always better to learn that stakes are high and the kind of risk that is involved in bleaching.

Hair is heavily processed (damage-prone)

Hair is heavily processed

Processed hair is very brittle due to breakages in the hair cuticles, and bleaching makes it more prone to damaging external factors like very harmful UV rays, humid conditions, wind, dirt, dust, and excess sebum/oil, which resides inside the scalp and makes hair not only dull but frizzy as well.

This could result in split ends, uncontrollable hair fall, and which in turn hampers hair growth greatly.

Moisture level dips (losses natural moisture)

Moisture level dips

The hair fiber is made up of protein, which is called as keratin, and this keratin is severely affected by the bleach that completely fries out the fiber, and all you are left with is dead ends and wearied out for hair, and the protein balance is completely lost which makes hair extremely vulnerable to damage and breakage.

Scathes the scalp

Scathes the scalp

In a standard procedure of bleaching, it is preferred to generally leave out the roots for the end of the process, as scalps take much less time as compared to the locks, and the maximum brunt of bleaching is borne by the scalp, which leaves it supremely agitated and scathed. The chemicals in the bleach are just too harmful to the scalp skin, and the dryness that follows blocks the roots.

Extremely dry hair

Extremely dry hair

The process of bleaching is an oxidation procedure that tends to make the hair extremely dry, and the luster and natural shine of the hair are lost. It becomes more lifeless as it is stripped of any possible nutrition and moisture. The damage that at this point happens is very hard to reverse.

High maintenance needs

High maintenance

As part of the aftermath of bleaching, your hair will face almost immediate damage, and if proper care is not maintained, the harm could go to tenfold of what it already is. A regular hair spa can somewhat help you maintain the health of your hair, but except that you have to make sure that your usage of chemicals is minimal to zero upon your hair.

Hair discoloration

Hair discoloration

Your natural hair color could be anything, but if you tend to end up bleaching, your hair color will be the outcome of what your hair was. Besides, the bleach, once it starts fading away, will be in splinters, which is not just too bad to even look at but will probably take a haircut to fix!

So if you are somehow fixated on getting that hair bleach job done, then you should probably keep these points on your fingertips, and you can, if not control, minimize the damage that will befall upon your hair. Try to pick a shade that suits your hair type so that bleach has not to be repeated often because there are instances when people have started to get clumps of hair if they have processed the bleach for too long. A spa beside the color job can also help restore a bit of balance besides the obvious damage, and you will find to go.

Why Sex Education is Important in India- Tackle the Taboos Effectively

Sex education

The word “sex” is enough to raise eyebrows when talked about in Indian society, which is both regressive and pitiful. If we talk in terms of the sexual health of our masses it’s poor and is contributing vastly to our already bursting census. Despite this ground-breaking reality, sex education remains a hush-hush topic in India, and the awareness is largely absent.

Sex Education and its necessity

Sex Education

Due to the current conditions, it has become the hour’s call as India is set to cross China on the population chart to top it. Several reports by independent agencies have asserted the grave importance of sexual health and its relevance in family planning measures. The whole cycle starts at the grassroots from the birth of a child and the hospital that delivers the child, as under the child and women welfare guidelines it is mandatory to go through the family planning sessions if you are not aware. The awareness surrounding the usage of contraceptive devices is poor as well, and despite continuous drives to push it, it largely has failed to propagate. This where it becomes imperative to create an effective system and start at the very base level is from “schools”, where kids will be taught age-appropriate and supervised but relevant sex education levels.

“What all is enough?”, what and what-nots of sex-education

What all is enough

The Internet is an obvious source of misconceptions and contorted facts. This often leads to a very confusing picture of how the process of intercourse or its related activities happen. For example, a teenager who is at his/her prime and doesn’t understand how contraception or consent works might end up in a situation that will change their whole lives. The teen years are the most crucial and equally difficult to manage, hence guiding them onto the right path is of utmost importance. In the best interest of our collective best. Statistically speaking, India has a population of about 253 million adolescents. Which almost accounts for up to 21% of India’s total census. This is Why Sex Education is Important in India.

And on the policymaking front, the Indian government a decade ago rolled out the Adolescence Education Programme (AEP) in collaboration with NACONCERT, and UN. This measure was initiated as the HIV epidemic worsened the already deprived state of sexual health of Indian citizens. The policy received flak from about 13 states which banned it on the grounds of “inappropriateness and against Indian culture”.

Meanwhile, it is necessary to understand what sex education encompasses and how, on a whole, it is beneficial. It should be considered that adolescents undergo drastic changes due to puberty, making them extremely uncomfortable and bewildered. In this instance, AEP can be extremely helpful and enlightening. From how to adjust to bodily changes, understanding one’s sexuality, homosexuality, good touch bad touch, and responsible sexual behaviour are the topics that should be covered sans any misinterpretations or exaggerated facts.

Sensitisation and practical results

Sensitisation and practical results

Over time several institutions have come up with surveys and studies that indicate a slow but obvious shift in the awareness around sex education. When looking up at the questions posed to different individuals in these surveys, they have answered in affirmative, being given lessons at their schools which have further shaped all their ideologies surrounding sex. One individual states how the lessons helped him lead a life that was not astute with wrong sexual decisions. The new education policy mentions a realistic approach towards sex education as a permanent part of both primary and secondary education. This will lead to a larger sexual awareness and catalyse improvement when it comes to sex-related offences.

Bridging the gap

When it comes to practical guidelines, it seems like an impossible task owing to the taboo surrounding the very topic of sex as this is not something that is or would be discussed openly in Indian households. Nonetheless, there are NGOs like Super School India, a Delhi-based NGO who are working towards the development of a friendly atmosphere where sex education lessons can become commonplace and less a topic for contemplation. Positive strides in this direction would be a big, and welcome change from the usual hostility that the topic of “sex-education” receives.

We hope that this article helped you to reflect on how our society needs a complete revolution and how sex-education is a big tool for that to happen. Remember, the onus is on us, and everyone matters!
